Porsche Sports Cup Deutschland
EN: Porsche Sports Cup Germany is coming to the Lausitzring! That was the news which hit us. We immeditly decided to contact one of the better known teams, namely Wendland Motorsport. Gladly they messaged us in a short period of time and invited us into their box to spent a full day with them! As the day arrived, we packed our gear, threw it in our racebug and sprinted to the ring. You could say we were really desperate to hear, smell and see some real race action again after that long Covid-19 break.
The tension began to rise as we came closer to the ring and after we finally arrived and cchecked through all the security and hygiene measures, we finally could hear the cars flying by and you could litteraly tell that we were close to our tears hearing these noises again! As we started heading directly to the track for some fly-bys, we were greeted by, very Porsche likely, a Le Mans winning 919 and an FIA Formula E racer. As if this wasnt enough, we got the chance to admire not one - but a fleet of Taycans. You have to admit, the Taycan is one of the most beautiful modern cars build up to date. Gently designed lines but still the Porsche DNA and shape recognizable. I think we dont have to add anything to the other two racecars, they and their victories speak for themselves! We headed down the pitline, came across Team Wendland Motorsport and had the first look at their cars. We couldnt hold our selves and kept going until we reached corner 1.
It was time for some photography! Corner 1 might be one off the trickiest on the Lausitzring: High curbs on the inside, very hard breaking zone from flatout into nearly standing. This combination, as you might expect it isnt boring but gives spectacular images on cars hitting the curb too hard and go two wheeling and you dont have to forget the stunning sights of glowing breaks! After the first session we went back to the pits to finally have a talk with the team. We want to introduce to you Wendland Motorsport! We interviewed Jessica Wendland, who also was our guide and showed us different perspectives and roles in the team.
1. How long has Wendland Motorsport been around, who are you and how did you get into motorsport and Porsche?
Wendland Motorentechnik GmbH has existed since 1985. The two managing directors Karl-Heinz and Dieter Wendland have always been active in motorsport. At first they sat behind the wheel themselves, then they switched to the other side and looked after racing teams in the Super Cup, Carrera Cup, long distance etc. with the technical know-how they had acquired over many years. The Porsche brand has always been with us. In 2016 we entered the Porsche Sports Cup, in which mainly amateur sports drivers show their driving skills. There we looked after # 134 on a 981 Cayman GT4 Clubsport and then switched to the 991.2 GT3 Cup together. After that, # 59 joined our team in 2019 and # 287 in 2020.
2. How big is your team?
Currently we are 7 mechanics / organizers and 4 or 5 drivers (# 59: 1 driver PSC / # 134: 2 drivers PSSC and PSCE / # 287: 1 driver PSSC + 2 drivers PSCE).
3. Which racing series and which vehicles do you drive?
We currently drive in the Porsche Sports Cup Germany in the racing series Porsche Sports Cup (= sprint for road vehicles), Porsche Super Sports Cup (= sprint for racing vehicles), Porsche Sports Cup Endurance (= long distance for racing vehicles). We are currently participating with a 991.2 GT3 RS and two 991.2 GT3 Cup cars.
4. What would be your greatest achievements?
All three vehicles or all drivers together on a podium.
5. Do you have goals that you absolutely want to achieve as a team?
The most important goal is that our customers are satisfied with our work on their racing car and off the track. But to fulfill the dream of every racing driver, namely to win in all races and to be in first place with all drivers in all racing series, that would of course also be something.
6. What are your future plans?
Given the current changes in the automotive sector, it is of course difficult to say anything specific. As long as we still enjoy it, we definitely want to continue to look after our drivers and their race cars. And what comes next, let's see.
7. What motivates you to drive?
Definitely the fun and the passion for motorsport (the driving experience, the sound, the design - that makes you happy), but also the sporty aspect and definitely our team, which is simply great!
We think that you now have a brief view on who Wendland Motorpsort is and what they stand for. After we left the starting grid the engines went on and they started the formation and sighting lap, soon followed by the green light amd a phenomenal start. Just imagine a group of cars racing with topspeeds around 250kph, hard breaking zones, head to head battles and sadly some crashes! We can tell you that there was some tension in the air! The race went quite good for team wendland motorsport with just a little contact on one car, a battlescar as you could say. If you thought this was the highlight of the day, you’ll be proven wrong within the next lines. For the first time in the Porsche Sports Cup history there was a night race following! So after the next few track sessions and a wheater change from dry to heavy rain, the sun set and the tension started rising again. Most of the drivers never drove a night race so it was a premiere for most of them. After it went dark and the track was cleared from another crash in the PZ trophy, the gt3s were sent out. Roaring and screaming boxer engines were flying over the wet track and spraying through the aair behind behindA spectacular sight! Shortly after the practice session the starting grid formed again, this time in bitter darkness. They started behind the safety car after 2 sighting laps and a declared wet race. We dont want to hide the thrilling pictures of spraying rain, battling cars and glowing disc brakes. Time to lean back and enjoy the rest of this article about the prsche sports cup! Here we want to thank Team Wendland Motorsport once again for this opportunity and want to wish them all the best! Make sure to check them out on Instagram and to visit their website!
Stay tuned.
